“Spider Monkey” Sculpture

Description

Sue’s sculptures begin their lives as a solid frame work. Air drying clay is added layer by layer, which she then manipulates into the forms she requires.The texture of the clay often influences the finished piece. For example, if the clay is damp it will result in a laying relaxed sculpture, and if it is quite dry it can support a sitting or standing piece.

Sculpture description:
This sculpture was inspired by the incredible Monkeys rescued by Monkey World Center Dorset, reflecting the speed and movement of the Spider Monkeys housed there. Sue records as much information as possible before embarking on her projects, please view some reference material that was made on her visits to the center.

Each sculpture is hand painted and hand built and totally unique.
